Tales of
Humanity and Hardship:
An Examination of Early
Black Migration in Waterloo-Wellington Counties
Press Release:
Long neglected in local
history accounts, Joanna examines relatively unknown stories and community
contributions of early black settlers and provides us with a rare insight into
the plight of refugee slaves as they forged their way into the unknown in order
to build a better life for themselves and their families. Leaving the chains of
slavery behind, some were better received than others but, as you will discover, all were
determined to succeed.
